A shared draft, coloured by who wrote what
Coastal planning changed on paper in 2024, yet the smaller authorities never gained the capacity to enforce it, and the gap widened where it was already worst.
Every contribution carries its author, so each student is credited for the words they actually wrote. In group work, everyone's share is clear.
The problem
Generative AI broke the take-home essay.
A finished essay can be produced in seconds, and detectors can't reliably tell who, or *what*, wrote it.
The solution
Stop policing the output. Credit the work instead.
The whole learning journey of reading, understanding, planning, and producing is credited to the student who did the work. When the effort behind the words is visible, there's no output to police.
One continuous flow where every stage is in the same place, on the same record, with peer critique woven through each step. Assessment is spread across reading, planning, writing and critique. A Portfolio of work, not a single high-stakes essay, so the final submission is no longer the final grade. A move towards assessing the learning journey, not just assessing the final output.
Who marks
The tutor owns the grade.
Rheton never marks. The marking criteria are published to students up front, and every stage leaves a defensible record of who did what. Each student's dashboard supports the tutor's judgement by giving them an assistant to support their marking.
