mastery through feedback

We all know that the feedback loop is essential to learning, but how do you give feedback when the students aren't in front of you? Soma guides student learning through feedback, asking them questions, prompting them in the correct direction, identifying and challenging assumptions and continuing to ask the vital questions until mastery of the topic has been achieved.

How Soma uses feedback to achieve mastery

1

Guided tutorials

Soma walks students through the learning objectives, one step at a time. It asks them questions, guides and coaches them towards the correct explanations. It has a built-in ‘misconceptions’ identifier that challenges the learner.

2

Long-answer questions

Real mastery requires a deep understanding that only long-answer questions can develop. Soma asks questions at the correct level, marks the answers and gives feedback to the students. It doesn’t stop there, though: it then designs a new question that directly challenges what they got wrong in the previous one.

3

Support built into every question

Being stuck is where learning can really happen. Soma scaffolds the questions and feedback to build confidence and keep the students engaged.

4

Built by educators for students

Built by educators for students, the tutor and question sections guide you through your learning.

See the difference a question makes

Soma’s feedback is question-based, guiding learners towards the correct answer without telling them the answer.

  1. What worked
  2. What is missing
  3. A question to think about next
Question

Explain the effects of the loss of myelin on a nerve impulse.

SecureDevelopingNot yet

You have explained what myelin does; that is a really good start. Now think about what the effect of myelin loss might be. Remember that the question asks you about the impulse directly, so you need to mention that in your answer.

You can control everything

Soma will suggest the Learning Objectives from the content that you upload. You can edit and perfect these to your heart’s content. You will also get an overview of the progress of each student.

For students

Practice that develops you
